Summer School (7.5 ECTS)

Finland Futures Research Centre (FFRC) and Finland Futures Academy (FFA) organise biannual international Summer School June 14th – 17th 2004. This time the International Summer School will take place in Tampere and it is arranged consecutively with the Conference on Towards Sustainable Futures -Tools and Strategies.

The International Conference 2004 focuses on four themes: thematic discussion about sustainable futures, future of sustainable development, sustainability strategies, and measuring the performance of the strategies. The lectures and exercises of the Summer School go deeper into the topics of the conference. The students are expected to participate both into summer school and conference.

The aim of the International Summer School on Sustainable Future is to bring together those interested in sustainable development and futures oriented research. A sustainable future means an economically efficient, culturally diverse, socially safe and fair future state that takes into consideration environmental aspects. With the methods of futures research, it is possible to address the development trends in the different areas of sustainability, search for alternative futures and assess their desirability.

The participants will learn more about how sustainability aspects are actually taken into consideration in futures studies and futures oriented thinking. The Summer School is based on interdisciplinary, internationality and the interaction between theories and practices. The aim is to offer the participants new perspectives for understanding the concepts of sustainable development and the challenges of building a Sustainable Future.

Summer School is available for both under and post graduate university students. Teaching and exercises during the days are carried out in English. To complete the whole course students get 7.5 ECTS credits.
