Scanning for Competence and Education

"Maneuvering through the world requires balancing between “steering with strategy” versus “steering with learning”. People and organisations should be moving towards the latter, but unfortunately they tend to do just the opposite. Fear of loosing control in a rapidly changing world drives us towards a “gaining control” mode. It is easy to focus on “business as usual” with minor efforts on creative experiment. We tend to think that giving up traditional theories and recipes amounts to giving up control. In order to proactively face the challenges of the turbulent world, adopting “steering with learning” is something that needs to be done. Recently, learning is high on agenda among strategic focuses in many organisations. The evaluation and development of competence are among the most important factors regarding the future development of any regions, organisation's, university's, company's etc. activities. The competence management lifecycle includes locating, selecting, deploying, assessing, training, developing, recording and accrediting individual and team competence. How to scan for the future competence? How to anticipate future needs of education".
