Learning and education shape tomorrow by giving individuals tools for navigating the emerging world. Moreover, educational systems and learning environments in business have a major impact on national innovation and competitiveness. All this entails not only responsibility but also a great opportunity to take hold of the future by making conscious choices in the design of creative environments – both for learning and work.

Recent studies on the future of learning have presented dramatically different perspectives on the world of education from the one we see today. Technological progress and programmes geared to improving collective intelligence are changing the world in which future students and knowledge workers will learn. Many experts see the future of learning as more and more driven by networks, the development of social media, personalised education, problem-based and work place learning. A common feature in different views on the future of learning is placing the student at the centre of the educational system. The walls keeping educational institutes and the rest of society apart are becoming lower and thinner. The same changes, bringing with them both challenges and opportunities, will be faced both by educational institutes and business organizations.

The conference "Grasping the Future – A Challenge for Learning and Innovation" challenges linear thinking and promotes futures literacy both in education and business environments. We offer visionary keynote speakers, public debates as well as demonstrations of current innovative practices that may well pave the way for new approaches to learning and innovation.

The programme includes keynote lectures, panel discussions, concurrent workshops and demonstrations. If you are interested in presenting a paper or a poster, please submit us an abstract (max. 250 words). The abstracts should provide sufficient information about the aims, methods, discipline or theory in question, and about the results of the research. Please, submit the abstract via an electronic form.

The final papers should be original, unpublished, and not more than 15 single-spaced pages with a minimum 12 pt font size. They should only contain the title and the body of the paper, with the author names and affiliations. Please, submit the final paper to conference coordinator at conference2008@tse.fi

Papers and posters will be presented in English.

If you wish to give a demonstration of a learning environment innovation, please contact conference coordinator at the address conference2008@tse.fi. Demonstrations will be presented in workshops. It is also possible to give a demonstration in Finnish in a special Finnish speaking workshop. If you are interested in this option, please indicate so when submitting your proposal.
